Wise card review (2026): Fees, features & alternatives in Singapore

Key Takeaways:

  • The Wise card comes in two versions: a personal debit card and a business debit card. Both let you spend in 160+ countries (as of 1 Sep 2026) with competitive exchange rates and a small conversion fee.

  • Both cards include S$100 of free overseas ATM withdrawals per month, after which a 1.75% fee applies (as of 1 Sep 2026).1

  • Airwallex offers a free corporate card as part of a broader financial platform that includes expense management, global payouts, and a full payment gateway.

If you're looking at the Wise card, there are two versions to know about: a personal debit card and a business debit card.

Both let you spend overseas at competitive exchange rates without the markups most banks add, but they work differently and suit different needs.

This review covers both cards, looking at how they work, what they cost, and where they fall short. We also compare the Wise card to popular alternatives in Singapore, so you can decide which card fits your situation.

What is the Wise card?

Wise is a UK-based fintech that lets individuals and businesses send money internationally, hold multiple currencies, and spend abroad.

It offers two debit cards: a personal debit card and a business debit card. Both pull from your Wise multi-currency balance when you spend; the main difference between them is the card fee and what's included in the account.

The personal card costs S$8.50 as a one-time fee.¹ The business card is free for your first card, with additional team cards at S$4 each.² For a full breakdown of fees across both cards, see the fees section below.

Information in this section is based on Wise’s official website as of 1 Sep 2026.

Wise card fees

The Wise card charges no monthly fee on either the personal or business version. Most fees are transaction-based; what you pay depends on how you use the card.

ATM withdrawals

Both cards can be used at overseas ATMs. However, Singapore-issued Wise cards cannot be used at ATMs within Singapore.³

For both personal and business cards, you get up to S$100 in free overseas withdrawals per month. Any amount above this is charged at 1.75%.1

Currency conversion

Wise converts currencies at the mid-market rate, which is the same rate you see on Google or XE.com. The conversion fee for both business and personal cards starts from 0.19% and varies by currency pair.3

Is the Wise card safe?

In Singapore, Wise operates through Wise Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd., which is licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as a Major Payment Institution under the Payment Services Act 2019.

This means Wise is subject to MAS oversight on how it holds and moves customer funds.

At the card level, you can freeze and unfreeze your card instantly through the Wise app if you misplace it or spot a transaction you don't recognise. You can also replace or cancel your card from the app if it is lost or stolen. The Wise card supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, so you can leave the physical card at home and pay from your phone.

One thing to note: if Wise detects suspicious activity on your account, it may restrict your card and freeze it automatically. In that case, you won't be able to unfreeze it yourself; you'll need to contact Wise support.6

How to use the Wise card for travel

The Wise card is designed for overseas use. Here are a few practical steps to get the most out of it before and during your trip.

Before you travel

Load the currencies you need into your Wise account before you leave. This way, you're spending from a balance you already hold and not converting on the fly, which can sometimes carry a higher fee.

Check the Wise app for the exact conversion fee for each currency pair before you convert.

If you're only travelling to one country, load the local currency. If you're visiting multiple countries, you can hold several currencies at once and the card will draw from the right balance automatically.

While you're travelling

Use the card for in-store and online purchases overseas. The card draws from your held balance at no extra charge. If you don't hold the local currency, Wise converts at the mid-market rate plus its standard conversion fee.

For cash, note that your free ATM withdrawal limit is S$100/month. Plan your withdrawals to stay within the limit and avoid the 1.75% fee that applies above it.

Keep the Wise app open during your trip. You'll be able to track spending, freeze your card if needed, and top up your balance on the go.

Information in this section is based on Wise’s official website as of 1 Sep 2026.
