Install the Airwallex Fraud Protection App for Shopify
Install and configure the Airwallex Fraud Protection App to improve transaction success rates and reduce fraud on your Shopify store.
The Airwallex Fraud Protection App is a Shopify app that helps improve transaction success rates and reduce fraud for merchants using Airwallex on Shopify.
Airwallex recommends installing the Fraud Protection App alongside your Airwallex payment apps as part of your Shopify setup.
Overview
The Airwallex Fraud Protection App is an operational app for risk management in Shopify. It is separate from your checkout payment apps and is designed to help Airwallex collect fraud-related signals from your Shopify storefront and checkout so they can be linked to the corresponding payment attempt for risk assessment.
The app:
- Helps improve transaction success rates and reduce fraud.
- Connects your Shopify store to your Airwallex account for fraud protection.
- Uses a Shopify web pixel and app embed to collect fraud-related signals on storefront and checkout pages.
When you should install this app
You should install the Airwallex Fraud Protection App if you use Airwallex with Shopify and want to strengthen fraud protection on your store. Airwallex recommends installing it alongside your Shopify payment apps as part of your overall Shopify setup.
This app does not replace your payment apps. Instead, it works alongside them as a separate operational app for fraud protection.
Before you begin
Make sure that:
- You have an Airwallex account with Payments enabled.
- You have at least one Shopify store to connect.
- You have already installed, or plan to install, the relevant Airwallex payment apps for Shopify.
If you are just getting started with Shopify and Airwallex, see Getting started with Airwallex Shopify apps.
How installation works
The setup flow has three parts:
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Connect the Shopify store to your Airwallex account on the app configuration page.
- Enable the app inside your Shopify theme and verify the web pixel is connected.
Once setup is complete, shopper activity on your storefront and checkout can be sent to Airwallex for fraud-related processing.
Install the app
- Log in to your Shopify Admin and select the store you want to connect.
- Open the Shopify App Store listing for Airwallex Fraud Protection .
- Click Install and follow the prompts in Shopify to complete installation.
You can also discover the app from the Airwallex web app by going to Settings > Connections > Shopify, selecting a store, and following the installation link to the Shopify App Store.
Connect your Airwallex account
After installation, Shopify redirects you to the app configuration page, where you can connect the Shopify store to your Airwallex account.
- On the configuration page, click Connect with Airwallex Account.
- Log in to your Airwallex account.
- Select the Airwallex account you want to connect to this Shopify store.
- After the connection is saved, you are redirected back to Shopify Admin.
What happens during account connection
During this step, the app checks whether the Shopify store is already connected to an Airwallex account and lets you either connect a new account or manage an existing connection.
The connection flow is designed to:
- Authenticate the user with Airwallex.
- Fetch the list of available Payment Acceptance accounts the user can access.
- Save the selected account as the connected account for that Shopify store.
- Redirect the user back to Shopify Admin when complete.
If you cannot find the account you want to connect, refer to the existing account connection requirements in the Help Centre .
Turn on fraud protection in your theme
After your account is connected, make sure the app embed is enabled in your Shopify theme.
- In Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize for your active theme.
- Open App embeds.
- Confirm that the Airwallex Fraud Protection app embed is turned on.
This app embed helps collect storefront-level fraud-related signals before checkout.
Verify the app is working
After setup, you can confirm installation in Shopify in the following ways.
Verify the web pixel connection
In Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Customer events and check that Airwallex Fraud Protection appears in the installed web pixel list with status Connected.
Verify the app embed is enabled
In Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds, confirm the Airwallex Fraud Protection embed is switched on.
Verify shopper activity is being tracked
Once installed correctly:
- Shopper activity on your storefront sends tracking requests to Airwallex.
- Checkout activity sends fraud-related data to Airwallex when shoppers enter contact, shipping, billing, and payment details and confirm payment.
Manage Shopify connections in Airwallex
You can manage Shopify store connections from the Airwallex web app in Settings > Connections > Shopify.
From there, you can:
- View connected stores and installed apps.
- Connect new stores and discover available apps.
- Refresh connection status after installation.
For more details, see Manage Shopify connections.
Troubleshooting
I installed the app, but I cannot connect an Airwallex account
Make sure you are logging in with an Airwallex user that has access to at least one eligible Payment Acceptance account. The connection flow only returns Payment Acceptance accounts available to the authenticated user.
I installed the app, but I do not see confirmation that it is active
Check both of the following in Shopify:
- Settings > Customer events to verify the web pixel is connected.
- Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds to verify the app embed is turned on.
Both parts are important for a complete setup.
I already connected the wrong Airwallex account
The app supports connection management, including changing an existing connection. If you need to refresh the connection, reconnect the store from the app flow rather than uninstalling the app.
I cannot see my store in Airwallex Connections
In the Airwallex web app, go to Settings > Connections > Shopify and use Refresh connection status after installation to update the list of connected stores and apps.
