Activate payment methods

You can activate payment methods as part of submitting your application for Payments activation. It's important that you understand the payment method onboarding requirements before initiating your application for Payments activation, as it helps you prepare your website and business information correctly to avoid application rejections and delays.

  1. Log in to the Airwallex web app and navigate to Payments.
  2. Click Get started to activate Payments. Get started
  3. Provide the requested information to facilitate the optimal setup of Payments for your account. This includes providing business details, choosing a payment solution for your business, and activating your desired payment methods.

Airwallex is required to collect and maintain this information from all Payments customers. These requirements come from Airwallex's regulators and financial partners, and are intended to prevent abuse of the financial system. Airwallex reviews the information you provide internally to make sure that it complies with Acceptable Use Policy and Terms & Policies .

Payments application 4. Select your payment methods for activation. Only payment methods supported for your chosen payment solution will be available for selection, but you can always add more payment methods later via the Payments > Payment methods tab.

Some payment methods are activated for use instantly while others might require additional processing time.

Payments application status

Your application is automatically approved if it meets certain criteria. If a further review is required, Airwallex typically takes 1–2 business days to complete the review process.

If additional information is required, Airwallex will trigger an RFI (Request for Information) and will reach out with questions. You can submit your responses directly within the Airwallex web app. Following a careful review of your application, you will be notified of the outcome in the Payments tab.

  • Approved: You may proceed with integration and payment processing via your website or payment links after confirming the activation status of your payment methods. If you are new to Airwallex Payments, you will be informed about details regarding a reserve plan, if applicable.
  • Declined: Your application for payment acceptance has been declined. For possible next steps, see FAQ .

To start accepting payments, navigate to Payments > Payment methods > My payment methods

  • Based on your business profile, some popular payment methods may be automatically enabled.
  • If no payment methods are active yet, or if your preferred payment methods are not enabled, you can request activation from the Other available payment methods section.

Payment activation statuses

You can track the activation status of each payment method in the My payment methods section. The following statuses may appear:

Not activatedThe payment method has not been activated for your account. You need to send an activation request.
Under reviewYour application is currently being reviewed by the payment method provider.
Updates requiredYour website/application requires updates or corrections. Please review the requested changes and resubmit your application.
Information requiredAdditional information is needed to complete the review of your application. Please respond to our RFI.
IneligibleThis payment method is not supported for your business industry.

If a payment method shows Updates required, the drawer lists the specific website or application updates needed before you can resubmit.

FAQ

Why is my application unable to proceed?

To meet our internal and external obligations there are certain restrictions upon which we may be unable to proceed with your application to activate payment methods.

  • Your business operations are outside of our Acceptable Use Policy (see Airwallex Acceptable Use Policy ).
  • Your application may not meet the requirements of our payment partners or our internal policies. This could be due to card scheme regulations that Airwallex is required to comply with.
  • Airwallex may be unable to onboard a merchant that falls outside of our internal risk policies.

Why are the payment methods I requested not available?

In certain cases where your application is approved we may not be able to provide access to certain payment methods you have requested. These are due to the requirements placed on us by our payment partners.
