Airwallex accelerates Asia-Pacific growth with an acquisition of a majority ownership of an Indonesian PJP Category 1 licensed payments company

  • Airwallex secures majority ownership of PT Skye Sab Indonesia

  • Acquisition strengthens Airwallex’s licences across Asia-Pacific

  • Builds on strong regional growth over the past year

SINGAPORE & JAKARTA - Airwallex, a global leader in business banking innovation, has acquired majority ownership of PT Skye Sab Indonesia, a PJP (Penyedia Jasa Pembayaran) Category 1 licence holder.

The acquisition allows Indonesian merchants looking to expand overseas to tap into Airwallex’s global financial infrastructure. This provides them an avenue for growth and to better manage their finances for international expansion, while facilitating international businesses’ entry into Indonesia. It also expands Airwallex’s already existing presence across major Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam.

The announcement follows Airwallex’s recent US$330 million Series G fundraise at an US$8 billion valuation, representing a ~30% increase from its previous round just six months ago. The investment will support the company’s continued growth in key markets worldwide, including Indonesia, as Airwallex strengthens its financial infrastructure and advances its AI roadmap. This includes the rollout of specialised AI agents that streamline financial workflows and enhance the speed, accuracy and efficiency of cross-border operations.

“As AI lowers software costs, infrastructure and data become the ultimate differentiator,” Jack Zhang, co-founder and CEO of Airwallex said. “Airwallex connects the full spectrum of a customer’s financial operations—money in, money out, and everything in between—giving our agents the contextual data to execute with precision. This proprietary visibility, built on our scalable financial infrastructure, is what powers agentic finance.”

Indonesia’s dynamic economy and growing digital ecosystem represent a key growth opportunity for Airwallex, particularly as the country advances towards its 2045 Digital Vision. This national agenda aims to transform Indonesia into a competitive global digital leader by driving innovation, strengthening its economy and institutions, and improving access to essential services. Airwallex will empower Indonesian businesses to navigate this transformation by providing access to its financial infrastructure across Southeast Asia, enabling them to go global with greater ease and efficiency.

Arnold Chan, General Manager, APAC at Airwallex, said, “This acquisition marks a significant milestone for Airwallex as we continue building a truly global financial platform. Indonesia’s fast-growing economy and vibrant SME sector present immense opportunities. Our goal is to tackle the financial challenges faced by businesses in Indonesia, empowering them to expand beyond borders.”

With over 64 million SMEs forming the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, the demand for seamless, cost-effective, and secure cross-border payment solutions has never been greater. Airwallex’s global infrastructure, combined with PT Skye Sab Indonesia’s local payment capabilities, will allow Indonesian businesses to expand globally with confidence.

Having a presence on the ground in Indonesia builds on the growth momentum that Airwallex has achieved across Southeast Asia and globally in recent years. In the region, the company reported a 108% year-on-year increase in revenue and a 94% year-on-year growth in transaction volume for Q3 2025. Globally, Airwallex exceeded US$1 billion in annualised revenue and US$235 billion in annualised transaction volume – a testament to the growing demand for its trusted solutions and global financial infrastructure.
