I recently wrote about what I call the path of maximum resistance which is the deliberate choice Airwallex made a decade ago to own our licenses, build direct regulatory relationships, and create global financial infrastructure from the ground up rather than layering on top of someone else's rails. It’s harder, slower, and more capital intensive but it compounds in ways that allow us to deliver for our customers over the long run.
Today's announcement is a continuation of that same conviction. I'm excited to share that Carolyn Renzin is joining Airwallex as our Chief Regulatory and Compliance Officer as we double down on the direction that has defined us from the beginning.
Carolyn is a 25-year regulatory litigator and compliance expert. She joins us from FanDuel where she served as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer during a period of rapid growth and intense regulatory complexity. Before that, she spent more than six years at JPMorgan Chase as Assistant General Counsel, designing and implementing global compliance programs under intense regulatory scrutiny in the wake of the financial crisis.
Her experience building compliance programs at scale across both traditional banking and high-growth technology is exactly what this moment requires. Based in New York, Carolyn will lead a dedicated organization scaling our Compliance, Enterprise Risk, and Regulatory Legal functions globally. Securing licenses was our first milestone. Our next goal is meaningfully engaging with regulators around the world as true partners to build the deep trust necessary to support our customers and our growth.
At Airwallex, I've focused on building a culture around ownership, velocity, and AI. The path of max resistance requires all three and it requires applying them to compliance with the same intensity we bring to product and engineering. In 2026, we expect to increase our compliance expenditure by 70% year-on-year and expand our dedicated regulatory and compliance team by approximately 50%. We've also integrated specialized AI agents to augment our KYC/KYB, AML, and transaction monitoring functions. This human-in-the-loop approach will allow us to scale quickly and effectively while maintaining the robust, hyper-accurate oversight our customers depend on.
In a world shaped by AI, stablecoins, and agentic commerce, the winners won't be those who moved fastest to market. They'll be the ones who built a durable foundation of trust at global scale — from customers, from partners, and from regulators. From real-time cross-border treasury to AI-powered financial operations, we intend to be at the forefront of shaping those standards.
