Airwallex's own Fraud engine enables you to stop fraud before it occurs and it is fully integrated with the Airwallex Payment Acceptance platform. It leverages our own models in combination with external data sources to discern fraudulent transactions from legitimate ones.
As a Merchant, you are able to customize your risk appetite, decide when 3D Secure should be leveraged, or a transaction should be rejected. Would you prefer to manually review some transactions, we also provide you this possibility.
The thresholds sliders represent your risk appetite and are set according to the parameters you have provided in the setup Wizard, do you want to reset them to its default position? Click "Need help with configuration?" and you will access the wizard again.
Use the green slider to decide how many transactions you want to accept without 3DS. The more customers get a fraud score in the green zone the higher your conversion rate will be.
Use the red slider to decide how many transactions you want to reject without using 3DS. The more customers in the red zone, the lower your overall conversion and purchases will be.
The yellow zone delimits those payments that will use 3DS or will require a manual review.
We recommend you to leverage the Wizard to configure the sliders. When you think the wizard is being too conservative start by increasing the share of 3DS transactions instead of directly accepting them, this will provide you an additional level of validation by the Issuer, most likely also a liability shift, and avoid you being subject to too many chargebacks.
As a Merchant you know your business better than anyone else and in order to provide you this additional level of flexibility at Airwallex we enable you to configure exceptions that will overwrite in any case the default system and risk engine behavior. Be aware that this may impact your fraud and charge-back rates; be also aware it can help to improve your authorization rate in some specific cases.
You have available 3 different lists corresponding to the scenarios that you can manually control:
- The bypass list enables you to overwrite the decision for a specific customer and skip the fraud engine submitting directly to the card issuer regardless of the risk engine advice. Note that you can only add items to this list from your Payment List view. In this case you will select "Skip fraud for the next transaction of this customer" and it will be added to the bypass list. You can use the action buttons to delete the items in the list or show the whole list.
- The reject list enables you to restrict even further the number of payments accepted by the fraud system. It enables you to upload your own blacklists and set-up patterns that you have identified as fraudulent and risky on your customer base. Any transaction in this list will automatically be rejected and you will not have the option to approve it any further. You can use the action buttons to delete the items in the list or show the whole list.
- The alert list functions similarly to the reject list, in this case any payment that matches the criteria will follow the alert review criteria (either use 3D Secure, recommended, or trigger a manual review. As a precaution we encourage you to rather use the alert list rather than the bypass list. You can use the action buttons to delete the items in the list or show the whole list.
The alert review section enables you to decide whether you need to perform manual review on the payments that have been identified as alert or rather you can leverage the automated solution of 3D Secure. By default all the transactions identified under the alert slider will use 3D Secure. Manually you can override the share of transactions that are reviewed manually.
Unless you are properly staffed to handle payment manual reviews and have a full understanding that this will impact your customer conversion rates, we strongly recommend you to use the automated 3D Secure solution.
This section is only applicable to you if you have decided to use the custom Alert review configuration and for at least part of your payments are being manually reviewed.
In this view we provide you the possibility to manage either only the pending review or obtain a historical overview of all the transactions identified for manual review. You have several options at your hand:
Export all the cases that match a certain criteria. This supports you operationally to perform data analysis or eventually postmortem analysis of the transactions that have been manually accepted or declined.
You can accept an individual case that has already passed the authorization stage. In this case, the transaction has been authorized by the issuer and has come to you for an ultimate manual validation. Upon your acceptance the funds may be captured and you can release your goods.
You can reject an individual case that has already passed the authorization stage. In this case, the transaction has been authorized by the issuer but you are consciously declining the transaction due to the expectation it will constitute fraud. This may help you to prevent some type of chargeback.
