Global Accounts are foreign currency accounts that function as local bank accounts. They can be used to collect funds from around the world. You get account details that enable you to collect funds from various platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Shopify, among others. It takes seconds to a new Global Account and can be activated instantly giving your business the power to receive foreign currencies faster and cheaper than traditional payments.

They enable you to accept international payments as if they were a local payment using our innovative global collection solutions. With Global Accounts, you can get paid by your global clients as easy as you can buy and sell your products and services with the touch of a button.

The ability to create Global Accounts and collect payments locally in international markets opens up previously inaccessible ecommerce platforms and customer bases. For domestic payments:

  • United States: United States Dollar (USD)

A business selling its products on an online marketplace platform to overseas markets, priced in multiple currencies depending on customer location or choice.

Pearl is an online jewellery retailer from Hong Kong with 88% of customers located in Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. Pearl sell their products on Amazon, they ship to Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States and accept payments in SGD, GBP, AUD and USD currencies. Their customers buy Pearl products on Amazon using their credit cards or debit cards. Prices are displayed in different payment currencies depending on the customer location or currency choice. At checkout, buyers are required to enter their bank card details to make payments in the currency displayed.

Pearl has SGD, GBP, AUD and USD Global Accounts which they use to collect funds from their overseas sales. Pearl’s overseas sales are paid to their relevant Global Accounts that function as local bank accounts. After funds are collected locally using Global Accounts, they are kept in their Airwallex wallet where they then convert their funds from the collected foreign currencies to HKD and connect directly to Hong Kong local payment networks using Airwallex payments infrastructure for low fees and fast receipt of funds to their local bank account.

Get Started

Global Accounts are available for all customers and can be opened via either the Web App or the Client API . Accounts will be instantly activated and available for immediate use. You can easily integrate with Airwallex Scale to transact with multiple counterparties and also integrate with Airwallex International Payments to move funds at high speed and low cost. Integration can begin immediately following registration success. One of our integration managers will be on hand to guide you through the process of integration, including resolving any queries and helping with testing.

Open a Global Account via Web App

To open a Global Account in the Airwallex Web App , you should log in to your Airwallex account and follow the steps below:

Step 1: Select Global Accounts tab

In the side navigation menu, select the Global Accounts tab. This will direct you to the screen where you will find the option to open Global Accounts

Step 2: Select + New Global Account Button

Selecting the + New Global Account button will load a form which you can fill out with the following required values; account currency and account nickname. Account currency can be selected from the drop down options of currencies allowed in your country. You will have to specify an account nickname for your Global Account and this can be used for marketing the usage of account, such as funding source. Account nickname can be changed after creation of a Global Account.

Step 3: Select Create account button

To proceed with the successful creation of your Global Account, you need to select the Create account button. Your Global Account will be created and you will see a message displayed confirming successful creation of your new Global Account together with the account details. On this screen you can edit your Global Account nickname. You can also easily copy your Global Account bank account number by selecting the ‘copy’ link adjacent to the bank account number.

Updating an existing Global Account via Web App

You can edit an existing Global Account nickname to any nickname you like.

Step 1: Select the Global Account you want to edit

Select from the list the Global Account you want to edit. From the details displayed, select Edit button. A pop up modal will be displayed with the editable account nickname.

Step 2: Edit your Global Account nickname

In the account nickname text field, edit the existing nickname, typing in the new nickname. Select Confirm button to proceed with the change. The new nickname will be saved for your Global Account.

Linking a platform to your Global Account

Due to some local regulations, payments into various countries may require underlying order details to be submitted. To facilitate order details collection and prevent unnecessary delays/rejections, customers link their platform accounts to their Airwallex Global Accounts. Customers can link any of the following platforms:

  • Amazon
  • eBay
  • Shopify

To link a platform in the Airwallex Web App, you should follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select +New store authorisation button

Selecting +New store authorisation button will display a form which you can fill out with the required details. From the Platform drop down options, select the platform you wish to link. The form will dynamically display the fields required for the selected platform (displayed fields vary depending on the chosen platform).

Selecting Link platform button will confirm linking your platform to your global account.

Download Global Account Statement on Web App

To download your Global Account statement, open to view the Global Account you wish to generate acoount statement for and select Download account statement link. A PDF file will be downloaded to your device for offline use. You can either choose to select your general account statement or a statement specific to your linked platform, e.g. Amazon account statement. To generate a platform specific statement, you would have to provide your account details for authentication purposes to your platform account.

Withdrawing money from your Global Account via Web App

Global Accounts are used for collection purposes only. All funds collected will be consolidated to your wallet where you can then withdraw funds out to your bank account or you can use to make payments direct from your Airwallex wallet.

Open a Global Account via Client API

API clients can submit a request to open Global Accounts in their chosen country via the Airwallex client API. Global Accounts can only be used for the purposes of receiving funds from payers via the local clearing system or SWIFT system. Make sure the following parameters are provided country_code, currency, nick_name, payment_methods, page_size, status, to_created_at & request_id. The country_code must specify the bank country where the Global Account will held. The account currency will be supplied from the specified currency_code and it should be one of those allowed for the country_code provided. Please refer to our API reference for more information.
